Net Crew

The Net Monkeys at work

The Net Crew is our paid crew of "net monkeys".   The Net Crew sets to work long before the Course Crew, rigging A-Net towers, overhead rigging and hanging  the A-Nets themselves.

The Net Crew's duties take them into the setup and race period when they keep the A-Nets properly tensioned and perform a number of other tasks.

In 2007, the Net Crew helped rig the towers for the new Alpina net systems for the newly created Franz's Ladies Olympic Downihill course, and rigged additional towers for new A-Nets on the Dave Murray Men's Olympic Downhill course.  Look at our  "Randy-Jelly Jar"  photo gallery and " Peter's Marvellous Day" for pictures taken during the installation of the Alpina A-Net towers.

During setup, the Net Crew provides a lot of help with the distribution of the B-Nets around the courses, and they also help with the watering programs, hosing down the tracks to increase snow density and create a harder surface.

The Net crew does the Ski-doo transport and assists with moving timing gear as well as helping the tv crews and other groups get their equipment into position. This includes helping the Finish Crew distribute fencing around the finish corral.

During the races, the Net crew is either in a section of the track helping to maintain it or standing by with Ski-doos to transport athletes back up for reruns.

The Net crew normally starts a month or more before the rest of the crews come in and finnish a few weeks after everyone is gone.
