Here is information for getting to Whistler and for getting around in Whistler, once you are there.

Transportation to Whistler

Most volunteers travel to Whistler on the Sea to Sky Highway that connects Vancouver to Whistler through West Vancouver, Horseshoe Bay and Squamish.  This is one of the most scenic drives in North America.

Highway 99 is undergoing massive upgrades in preparation for the 2010  Olympic Winter Games. . Although some road sections have been completed, these upgrades will continue well into 2009.  .

Beware that there are sometimes  highway construction closures..  Check the  Road Closure and Delay Information for the period in which you will be travelling to Whistler.  Historically, most of the long delays have been late at night. However, this may change.   There may also be short delays during daylight hours.

Travel From Vancouver Airport
Volunteers arriving by air at Vancouver International Airport may rent a car to drive to Whistler or use either of two bus services to Whistler.  One is a direct bus service from the airport and the second is a less expensive option from downtown Vancouver. A connecting bus service provides transportation to downtown Vancouver.

There are also direct taxi and limousine services from YVR to Whistler that we don’t list here.

Pacific Coach Lines Ltd. provides about 9  bus transfers a day to Whistler from YVR. The cost is approximately $61.00 (CAD) one way.  Look for :Whistler SkyLinx.   Stops & picks up at major Whistler Hotels 

Perimeter Transportation Ltd provides about 9  bus transfers a day to Whistler from YVR. The cost is approximately $55.00 (CAD) one way with stops at major Whistler Hotels.  Condo drop-off & pick-up available for $63.00 one way.

Alternatively, bus transfer is provided from various points in downtown Vancouver.  Use the Airporter bus to travel to Vancouver, and to catch the Greyhound bus to Whistler.

Greyhound Bus provides about 9 transfers a day to Whistler from the main bus station in Vancouver.  Brief stops are made along the way, in downtown Vancouver, at Squamish and at other locations where passengers may flag and board the bus.  The cost is approximately $40.00 (CAD) one way.

The Airporter bus provides transportation from YVR to the main bus station in Vancouver for about $14.00 (CAD).  Allow about 50 minutes, if catching the Greyhound Bus to Whistler.

Volunteers arriving in Whistler by bus in the late afternoon, and before 7 pm, may choose to be let off at the Legends Hotel in Creekside.  Walk across the top level of the parkade, opposite the hotel, to the Beer Tent where there will be fellow volunteers who can provide help and transportation to your accommodation.

Transportation within Whistler

Most volunteers who do not have their own car, and who have not secured local transportation, can  arrange rides to and from their accommodation with fellow volunteers having space in their cars.  The ROC will help organize local rides.

Alternatively, ROC vans and drivers will provide early morning pickups at your accommodation and will be on call in the late afternoon to help get people home.

As a last resort, the Resort Municipality of Whistler operates a very effective public bus system.   Look for the blue buses with the name “WAVE” on them.
