Officials' Courses
The Whistler Weasel Workers sponsor Alpine Canada Alpin (ACA) Officials' Courses, which are given periodically in Whistler and in the Vancouver region, for the benefit of volunteer race workers.
As the name implies, the ACA courses are intended for race officials, rather than course workers. However, when it comes to "race day", it is very important for course workers to understand how races are conducted. A knowledge of racer intervals, and how these might change and of how and when a race might be stopped is very important for worker safety. It is also important for course workers to know who the various race officials are and what their responsibilities are.
Also,
some volunteers do
double-duty as
both a course worker and a course official. For those course
workers who also serve as Gate Judges, it is mandatory to understand
the "rules of the game".
The Whistler Weasel Workers encourage all course workers to obtain the ACA Level II certification and expect it of Crew and Section Chiefs. Most Weasel Workers have sufficient experience to complete the Level II course without having taken the Level I course first.
If anyone is wondering about their BC Alpine Officials status they can check on the BC Alpine website. Enter your current level of certification and the area or club you are registered with. The database is as up-to-date as possible IF we let BC Alpine know we have worked the past year and still have a valid certification. If you encounter any problems please let Brad Keates know at courses@weaselworkers.com

Level II Course Manals in '.pdf' format.
The Level I course provides an excellent introduction for newcomers,
and useful background infromation for old hands too.
The Level 3 manual and additional Level 1 and Level 2 material can be found on the ACA Website This site also lists the National Alpine Officials Certification Criteria, which gives an overview of each course level, the approximate time required and the pre-requisites for that course.
Course Updates
Level 3
Currently there is a Level 3 Officials course
scheduled for
mid-November which will be taught by Mark Armour. If anyone is
interested please contact Brad at courses@weaselworkers.com.
Level 2
For our Level 2 courses we were waiting for information on the
availability of the ICR version 2004. At this time it appears that no
new ICR’s will be printed this year by BC Alpine. This does not mean
that there will be no courses, it means that we will have to possibly
print them ourselves or download them yourselves prior to the course.
After Sept 5, 2007, look here for more information
on courses this Fall.
