Riding the Whistler Lifts with Equipment
The Do's and Dont's
The following are Whistler Mountain's instructions to all volunteers when riding the lifts with equipment.
Please follow these instructions 'to the letter' and help maintain our good relationship with The Mountain.
- Whereever possible equipment should be transported back up the mountain after public hours by the Whistler Village Gondola, on blade carriers by snow cat, or by snow mobiles with appropriate trailers.
- Bamboo,
fence poles and race
gates must be bundled and double
tied - one tie at each end
when being
transported by any method. Bundles should be off your
shoulder when
carrying
around lift lines.
Use the priority entrance or go to front of line and wait until the lift operator allows you to load. (This only applies to bundles of poles.) - If the chair is equipped with a rack ask the lift operator to load the bundle on rack behind you. Bundles should be kept small in this method.
- Always remove your back pack when loading any chairlift.
- When carrying a bundle of poles always ride solo. Sit with the load in the center of the chair. Ensure that the load does not extend past the inside edge of the chair so it will not contact tower, if the chair swings.
Use the safety bar - Do not ride chair lifts with guests while carrying equipment, with the exception of drills. Ok to ride with other staff.
- Care should be taken when riding with any other equipment on a lift (like fencing, banners, shovels, rakes, etc, that it is not tangled in the chair when unloading. Make eye contact with the lift operator at the top of the lift and asked for the lift to be slowed if necessary.
- Hazardous materials such as propane, explosives, gas, may not be transported during public operation. This also applies to empty propane cylinders.
- A
radio or phone call should be made
to dispatch before transporting anything in high winds.
The
lift
maintenance tech and/or Lift Supervisor should be involved in the
decision and
be made aware.
Creekside Gondola
- Only short handled shovels and rakes may be transported on the Creekside lift. No bundles of poles.
Village Gondola
- If multiple cabins are being loaded a person needs to ride with the first cabin to unload cabins at top, unless other arrangements have been made with lift operators.
